Lucknow : The Congress Friday alleged irregularities in the implementation of the central government’s farm loan waiver in Uttar Pradesh and claimed it had received complaints about it from across the state.
“Be it a manager of a state-owned bank asking for bribe for loan waiver or making the farmer run from pillar to post to fulfill unnecessary formalities, we have received a large number of complaints,” Rita Bahuguna-Joshi, chairperson of the Congress’ state unit, told reporters here.
The complaints were being collected during an extensive survey throughout the state and would be presented to Chief Minister Mayawati in the form of a booklet.
Flanked by Digvijay Singh, Congress general secretary who looks after the party’s Uttar Pradesh affairs, Joshi also announced the launch of a statewide India-US nuclear deal awareness drive.
“All district heads and office bearers have been instructed to launch the month-long drive and create awareness about the benefits of the deal. Public meetings, door to door public contacts and distribution of pamphlets containing the benefits of the deal will be a part of the drive,” she added.
The state unit of the party also launched its website uttarpradeshcongress.com.
Declaring that the Congress has switched into election mode, Joshi asserted that party workers across the State would, if need be, court arrest.
“There is every possibility that our awareness drive will face hindrances but for the sake of the country we are ready for any kind of sacrifice,” she said.
