DMK fast on Saturday to protest attack on fishermen

By IANS,

Chennai : The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu will observe a day-long fast Saturday to protest the firing upon Indian fishermen by Sri Lanka’s navy.

DMK deputy general secretary M.K. Stalin will lead the fast in Rameswaram, where fishermen had been agitating since July 3, to protest the firing. Five people were killed in this year’s firing incidents so far.

DMK MP M.K. Kanimozhi will lead the protest in Nagapattinam, while minister Durai Murugan will lead the protest in Kanyakumari.

The DMK wants the matter to be taken up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) summit in Colombo in August.
