Magnitude 6.6 quake hits Japan

Tokyo : A magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit northern and central Japan Saturday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The agency issued a tsunami warning following the quake.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The epicentre was about 10 km under the sea basin off the coast of north-central Fukushima province.

A 20-centimetre tsunami was reported at the coast of Miyagi province of Honsu island.

Vacationers on the beach were warned to stay out of the water.
