Hyderabad : The dissolved Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) president KPS Gill Friday accused the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) of breach of contract for entrusting the responsibility to host the 2010 World Cup in New Delhi to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

After a meeting with the IOA President Suresh Kalmadi and ad-hoc committee members here today, the game’s governing body said it has entered into an agreement with the IOA to organise the mega event in New Delhi.

However, Gill claimed that the new agreement was invalid as there was already a deal between the FIH and Indian Hockey Confederation (IHC) in this regard.

“An agreement has already been reached between the IHC and FIH. I wonder as to how FIH could breach the contract,” Gill told PTI.

“How can IOA hold such a big event when IHC is not going to exist and Hockey India is going to be formed?,” he questioned, adding that “this meant the new body will have no role to play.”

The FIH President Els van Breda Vriesman Friday said IOA has proposed to rename the IHC to Hockey India but an official confirmation in this regard will be taken at the IOA General Assembly in November.

Gill pointed out that with the court case against the IHF’s dissolution still pending, it was premature on the part of IOA to take such a far reaching decision.

“In one hand, they (IOA) are buying time in the court and on the other they are taking far reaching decisions.

“How can ad-hoc committee by very definition be able to sign an agreement with the international body without caring for the law of the land. They are only to run the day-to-day affairs,” he stated.
