New Delhi : Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren Sunday morning arrived at the 10 Janpath residence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, raising speculation that his party could lend crucial support to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in Tuesday’s trust vote in parliament.
Soren, who has remained elusive and undecided about his support to the UPA, was accompanied by Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda and all four JMM party MPs.
The outcome of the meeting is not known.
The JMM has five Lok Sabha MPs and the party’s support to the UPA is essential for the Manmohan Singh government to win the July 22 vote of confidence.
Soren is expected to bargain hard for his party’s support – even demanding a couple of ministerial berths, including for himself.
“I am going for talks. We will tell the details later,” Soren said as he drove into Sonia Gandhi’s residence.
