Madhya Pradesh police on high alert after e-mail threat

By IANS,

Indore : The police in this Madhya Pradesh city and the temple town of Ujjain near here have been put on high alert after an e-mail threat of a terrorist attack, sources said Monday.

“An e-mail has been received July 17 on the official website of Indore police threatening to blow up Rajwada in Ujjain and some important places in Ujjain. The short message in English was sent in the ‘inform us’ column on the website,” the source said.

Inspector General of Police Indore range Anil Kumar, acknowledging the e-mail threat, said: “Police personnel in Ujjain and Indore have been placed on alert and security has been beefed up at all the important installations in both the places.”

Both Indore and Ujjain have been recently in the news for the arrests of several activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). The head of SIMI Safdar Nagori reportedly made Ujjain the group’s headquarters before it was banned.
