Shimla : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists here burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday as they held protests over the ‘cash for vote’ incident in parliament during the trust vote.
Led by Shimla district BJP chief Ganesh Dutt, party activists raised slogans against the UPA government.
They also demanded action against those politicians who made “mockery of democracy” by trying to bribe MPs.
Three BJP MPs – Ashok Argal, Fagan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Bhagora – Tuesday flashed wads of currency notes in parliament, alleging that they were offered a bribe by the ruling UPA coalition to abstain in the trust vote.
The Congress-led UPA government had to face a trust vote in parliament after the Left parties withdrew support over the India-US civil nuclear deal, reducing it to a minority in parliament.
