According to Shifa hospital sources, four militants and an eight-year-old girl were killed Friday evening in an explosion in the western part of Gaza city. Around 20 people were injured in the blast.

Witnesses said the four militants were inside the car when the blast took place.

The al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Hamas movement, said in a statement that unknown individuals attacked the car on the Coastal road of the city, killing four of their members.

Hamas blamed the rival Fatah movement for the attack.

The Islamist Hamas movement had taken control of the Gaza Strip from Fatah in June last year.

“The aim of carrying out such attacks is to bring the Gaza Strip back to the status of chaos and disorder that dominated the area before Hamas took control of the area,” the interior ministry of the deposed Hamas unity government said in a statement.
