Four Orissa youths arrested for credit card fraud

Bhubaneswar : Four youths have been held in the Orissa capital for making purchases worth over Rs.100,000 using a credit card of a Delhi-based film producer, the police said here Friday.

Producer Devendra Kumar, who was on a visit to the state, returned to Delhi March 1 but was shocked when he found his wallet was not with him. A few days later, Kumar got a call from a person who claimed he found his ICICI bank credit card.

Although the person assured him he would return the card, he did not. Later, Kumar checked his account and found that purchases have been made using his credit card, Dilip Das, inspector in-charge of the Laxmi Sagar police station, told IANS.

Kumar, who is a member of the advisory panel of the Central Board of Film Certification, informed the bank and managed to stop future transactions, he said.

He came here Thursday and informed police about the incident, Das said.

Police tracked the mobile and arrested the caller Charan Mohanty who told police that three of his friends also helped him in the crime. They were also arrested from the city.

All the arrested persons are under 30 years of age and one of them has a previous criminal record, Das said.

Kumar is associated with the yet-to-be released film ‘1920’ directed by Vikram Bhatt.
