Coalition forces searched several compounds in Zadran district targeting a Haqqani Network Taliban militant known to conduct operations against the Afghan government and Coalition forces, the statement said.

“Multiple armed militants engaged Coalition forces from a fortified fighting position which had been prepared and camouflaged near the compounds,” it said, “Coalition forces responded with small-arms fire, killing the militants.”

Attacks on international troops are on the rise across Afghanistan during past weeks when the Taliban militants continue to demonstrate their strength through suicide and roadside bombings.

Escalating insurgency and violent incidents have left more than2,300 people dead with over 700 civilians since January this year in the war-torn country.
