Backgounder: Major bombing attacks this year

Beijing : Twin bombings in Istanbul, Turkey killed 15 people and injured another 150 late on Sunday. The following are major bombing attacks taking place around the world so far this year:

On Feb. 1, explosions at two pet markets in Baghdad killed at least 65 and wounded 149 others.

On Feb. 17, a suicide bombing at a dog-fighting game in Kandahar, Afghanistan killed a total of 80 people and injured many others.

On March 6, a blast at a shopping mall in central Baghdad claimed 54 lives and 123 more were injured.

On May 13, at least 60 people were killed and over 150 others injured in a series of bomb blasts in the northwestern Indian city of Jaipur.

On June 17, a car bombing at a market in northwestern Baghdad killed 51 people and left 75 injured.

On July 7, 41 people were killed and over 100 others injured ina suicide blast attack near the Indian embassy in the Afghan capital of Kabul.

On July 26, 18 serial blasts killed 45 people in Ahmedabad city of western Indian state of Gujarat.
