Tehran : Iran’s Parliament Speaker said here Monday night Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) can play an important role in strengthening Islamic solidarity and unity among member countries.
According to Foreign Ministry News and Media Office, Ali Larijani made the comment in a meeting with the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference’s (OIC) IIPU, Mahmoud Urul Gilich adding, “Such a role can be played under the exalted teachings of Islam.”
He said, “The IIPU is the largest solid organization of the Islamic countries next to the OIC.”
Larijani added that the main privilege of the Islamic countries is their being benefitted from the holy Islam, adding, “Among the other privileges of the Islamic countries there are having rich natural resources and talented manpower.”
He said, “Being benefitted from all such positive points calls for efforts aimed at strengthening bonds among the Islamic countries in all cultural, economic, and political fields.”
The speaker of Iran’s Islamic Parliament considered playing an effective part at times when crises occur in member states and providing a proper atmosphere for exchanging experience in law making as the two most important missions of the IIPU, reiterating, “The Islamic Consultative Assembly, Majlis, is just as always ready to help the IIPU achieve its objectives.”
During the meeting Mahmoud Urul Gilich, too, congratulated Larijani’s election as the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, expressing hope that the IIPU could take advantage of his guidance for further strengthening its status.
He meanwhile presented a report about the performance of the IIPU ever since its establishment, appreciating the comprehensive assistance rendered by Iran’s Islamic Parliament in its establishment and its various activities.
The Secretary General of the IIPU added, “The Islamic Parliament of Iran has in fact been the initiator and the founder of the IIPU and has always played the main role both in helping it survive, and in helping it perform its duties.”
Gilich at the end asked for continuation of such support and guidance of Iran’s Parliament so that the IIPU could achieve its deserved status at the global scene.
The OIC’s IIPU was established in 1999 based on an initiative by Iran’s Islamic Parliament. The Secretariat of the IIPU is in Tehran and 50 Islamic countries have so far become its members.
