New Delhi : Parliament’s monsoon session scheduled to begin Aug 11 is likely to be postponed as the seven-member committee formed to probe the cash-for-vote scam will not be able to submit its report before that day, government sources said here Monday.
According to the sources, the government feels that without the probe report the session would prove chaotic with opposition and Left MPs disrupting the proceedings on the issue.
According to a senior minister in the cabinet, there is a view that parliament could convene the monsoon session at the end of August or hold a combined monsoon and winter session later. But no final decision has been taken. A decision on the issue will be taken after the prime minister’s visit to Sri Lanka for the SAARC summit Aug 2-3, the minister said.
The enquiry committee is probing the allegation by three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs that they were offered money by the Samajwadi Party and the Congress to abstain during the July 22 trust vote in parliament.
