Jharkhand businessman shot dead for refusing extortion demand

Ranchi : A businessman in Jharkhand’s Garwah district was shot dead Wednesday for refusing to pay Rs.500,000 as extortion, the police said.

According to the police, three motorcycle-borne men gunned down Krishna Gopal, owner of Electronica shop, at around 1 p.m. in Garwah district, around 130 km from here.

The men were demanding Rs.500,000 as extortion for the last two months and Krishna was not obliging them. Therefore, they had threatened to eliminate him, the police said.

According to family sources, Krishna had informed the police about the extortion call and sought security cover.

The police, however, did not provide security to him.
