Jakarta : An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 rocked eastern parts of Indonesia on Sunday evening, local meteorology agency said here.
The quake struck at 22:59 Jakarta time (1559GMT) with the epicenter at 134 kilometers southeast Sumbawa of East Nusa Tenggara province and at 14 kilometers under sea bed, an official of the agency Muhaimin told Xinhua.
The intensity of the quake was felt at 3 to 4 MMI (modified mercalli intensity) at Dompu, Raba, and Bima towns, he said.
Indonesia sits at a vulnerable zone called “the Pacific Ring of Fire” where two continental plates meet that cause frequent volcanic movements.
