Nepali ex-King to live in Nagarjuna temporarily

Kathmandu : Nepali Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Matrika Prasad Yadav said on Thursday that Nagarjuna palace is a temporary residence for former king Gyanendra.

Them minister said that the Nepali government has set Nagarjuna palace as a temporary residence to the former king Gyanedra Shah so as to remove him from the Narayanhiti palace.

Minister Yadav said so while speaking at a program organized by National Trust for Nature Conservation in Lalitpur, bordering capital Kathmandu, to mark the World Environment Day on Thursday.

It was not necessary to manage a residence to the former king as he is now an ordinary citizen, Minister Yadav said, adding that the Nagarjuna palace was also for temporary period, Nepali national news agency RSS’s said.

The Nepali government Wednesday offered Nagarjuna Palace to former King Gyanendra as residence after a cabinet meeting was convened.

Nagarjun Palace, some eight km north-west from downtown Kathmandu, was formerly owned by Gyanendra in his capacity as king and nationalized by the government in August last year.
