Orissa reduces VAT on petrol, diesel by 2 percent

Bhubaneswar : The Orissa government Friday cut the value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by two percent, an official of the state finance department said here.

The central government Wednesday announced a hike of Rs.50 per LPG cylinder, Rs.3 per litre for diesel and Rs.5 per litre for petrol.

After the reduction, petrol in the state will cost Rs.50.82 and diesel Rs.37.25 per litre.

The new prices would be effective from Saturday, the official he said. However, the state government has made no reduction in the price of cooking gas.
