Colombo will host this meeting for the first time with delegations from nearly 20 countries of Asia plus Cuba, and India will be the largest representation with 40 members.

In a press conference, Vitharana said “the meeting will crown the work of close friends of Cuba.”

The agenda includes conferences by professors from the Universityof Havana on Cuban politics and economy, international, Latin America and Caribbean studies plus contests, film and art displays in the capital and at other cities and a marathon.

They are all aimed at creating a positive environment and reinforcing knowledge of Cuba and stimulating friendship among the peoples.

Vitharana mentioned the challenges and feats of the Cuban people in education, health and technical-scientific development in dealing with the hardships the USblockade imposed.

So he called it a duty for all progressive forces to support Cuba in safeguarding its sovereignty and independent right to choose the route of socialist development.
