Palestinian leader Ashraf Abu Dayeh stated it was a peaceful demonstration, but he warned that if the demonstrators cannot have their own way, “a terrible explosion” might occur.

Rafah is the only communication road of the residents in the Strip of Gaza with the outside world, and one of the routs for supply, and it was closed by the government of Tel Aviv in June, after Islamic movement Hamas took the control there.

This situation, joined to the blockade and constant attacks by the Israeli Army took the local population to an extreme situation, provoking that hundreds of Palestinian people broke the wall separating them from Egyptian national territory, looking for food and medicines.
