Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh) : Four police officials sustained serious injuries when a group of villagers clashed with cops over a land dispute in this Uttar Pradesh city, officials said Sunday.
In an hour-long clash, a group of people including women attacked the police personnel who had gone to evict them from a plot of land Saturday at Chhota Khati village under the Ghoorpur police station.
They hit a sub-inspector with bricks and sticks and snatched the rifle of another cop.
Sub-inspector Kripa Shankar Singh, however, managed to flee from the spot but the villagers held captive his colleagues Rajesh and Shabir, who accompanied the police team to get vacated the plot of land.
Superintendent of Police (Trans Yamuna) Ashok Kumar, who sustained serious chest injuries, had to undergo an operation while circle officer S.K. Tripathi, sub-inspector K.S. Singh and constable Rajesh were administered treatment for their wounds at a private hospital.
District Magistrate Rajeev Agrawal said he had ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Senior Superintendent of Police Binod Kumar Singh said a first information report (FIR) has been lodged against those who attacked the police. He, however, denied a senior police officer was involved in the land dispute.
