MGR’s relative Vijayan was killed Wednesday night. Vijayan’s wife Sudha accused his brother K. Rajendran and his son R. Kumar of having masterminded the murder. The two men were questioned by the police for three days, but in vain. They have been admitted to a private hospital for “treatment”, family sources said.

“Since it is a very high-profile case, the state police’s Criminal Investigation Department may be a better option in this matter,” a senior official said requesting anonymity.

Meanwhile, the anticipatory bail applications of Rajendran, his wife Latha and son Kumar were withdrawn from the sessions court.

Police sources indicated that over 60 criminal elements known for clubbing their victims to death with iron rods were being interrogated.

Vijayan was beaten to death late Wednesday in a posh southern suburb here by unidentified persons, according to the eyewitness account of his companion Senthil.
