After questioning three main suspects for three days and following several leads, the city police allowed the matter to be taken over by the Crime Branch CID, that falls under the direct supervision of the Director General of Police K.P. Jain.

“Since it is a very high-profile case, the state’s Crime Branch CID may be a better option in this matter,” a senior city police official told IANS requesting anonymity.

Chennai city police commissioner R. Sekar said Saturday that he was sure of cracking the case “soon”.

MGR’s relative Vijayan was killed Wednesday night. Vijayan’s wife Sudha accused her brother-in-law K. Rajendran and his immediate family of having masterminded the murder.

Rajendran, son Kumar and wife Latha were questioned by the police for three days. They have been admitted to a private hospital for “treatment”, family sources said.

Meanwhile, the anticipatory bail applications of Rajendran, his wife Latha and son Kumar were withdrawn from the sessions’ court.

Over 60 criminal elements known for clubbing their victims to death with iron rods and under interrogation will now be questioned by the CID officials, police sources added.

Vijayan was beaten to death late Wednesday in a posh southern suburb here by unidentified persons, according to the eyewitness account of his companion Senthil.
