The two were identified as Aslam and Sarjoo. One of them told the police that the polythene pack got entangled in his fishing net.

Sarjoo sold the cartridges to Aslam for Rs.1,000. “Aslam has a criminal background and has two cases registered against him,” police spokesperson Ghulam Abbas told IANS.

“The cartridges are of .30mm bore and are used in Browny automatic pistols. Besides the seal and name of Pakistan Ordinance Factory, the year of manufacture, 1965, is also mentioned on its rim,” Abbas said.

“Police teams have been formed to find out how the cartridges reached the river. It could be the handiwork of hardcore criminals,” Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sanjay Kakkar said.
