While former home secretary Duggal is likely to be made governor of Maharashtra, Vohra, a former home secretary, defence secretary and principal secretary to former prime minister I.K. Gujral will be appointed in Jammu and Kashmir and Moosahari’s name is being considered for Assam, the sources said.

An official announcement is expected soon.

The Congress leadership is particularly keen on Vohra, the government’s special interlocutor on Jammu and Kashmir, as the state is heading for elections within a year.

While these three names are in the shortlist, official sources said former Rajasthan chief minister Shiv Charan Mathur’s name is also being considered.

S.K. Sinha in Jammu and Kashmir and Ajai Singh in Assam have been continuing in the posts even after their tenures were over earlier this month.

Goa Governor S.C. Jamir has been given additional charge of Maharashtra since S.M. Krishna left the post to join active politics in Karnataka ahead of assembly elections last month.
