Chandigarh : The Haryana police have dismissed from service two policemen accused of raping a woman, who later committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at the Panchkula office of a top police officer, a police official said Tuesday.
“We have dismissed head constable Balraj and constable Silak Ram of Rohtak crime branch. Both of them are absconding. We are tracking their call records to get some clue about their whereabouts,” Ranjiv Dalal, director general of Haryana police, told IANS.
“A special inquiry team has been established that is raiding various places in Haryana and Rajasthan to track down the accused cops,” he said.
“It is the saddest moment in the history of the Haryana police. In future, all cases of sexual harassment will be handled at the state police headquarters in Panchkula and not at the district headquarters,” Dalal declared.
“Funds will be released for the family of the rape victim from the police welfare fund. We will also put an in-house mechanism to ensure that such cases do not happen again in future,” Dalal added.
Former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on moral grounds.
“We went from pillar to post for justice but no one paid any heed to our complaint. If the police had taken timely and immediate action, then my wife would have been alive today,” said Subhash, husband of Sarita who committed suicide at the office of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) V.B. Singh in Panchkula.
