Guns, bullets seized in Uttar Pradesh, two held

Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh police raided a house on the outskirts of the Lucknow city and recovered six firearms and over 100 live ammunitions, the police said here Friday.

“After a tip-off, we raided a house on the outskirts of the city and recovered a double-barrel and a single-barrel factory-made firearms, along with three country-made pistols,” said Kalyan Singh, a police officer with Gosainganj police station.

“The owner of the house, Shiv Kumar, managed to flee during the raid but we have arrested two of his associates, Rajender Fauji and Jaiprakash. A Bolero jeep and a Maruti-800 car were also seized,” Singh added.

Police sources said that Shiv Kumar’s name also figured in various crimes in the city, and alleged that he had taken a contract to eliminate another criminal in Lucknow.

“However, before he could execute the contract, we raided his house and recovered the weaponry,” the source said.

In a similar haul, the police Monday arrested two people and recovered over 400 Pakistani-made pistol cartridges from the central shopping district of Hazratganj.
