The airline said in statement that it would initially introduce five weekly flights to the capital of Karnataka state from June 15 on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“The launch of the destination will open up new opportunities for people travelling between (Oman’s capital) Muscat and the thriving southern region of India,” Darwish Bin Ismail Al Balushi, secretary-general of the ministry of finance and member of the board of directors of Oman Air, said in the statement.

“India’s business connection to Oman is strong and travel demand in recent years has grown at impressive rates. With the rising wealth in Bangalore, we’re confident that we’ll also appeal to travellers who would come to the Sultanate for business or holidays or can use Muscat’s hub advantage to connect travellers onto Oman Air’s extensive network of destinations,” he
added.

There are around 500,000 expatriate Indians in Oman.

According to the new schedule, the new flights will leave Muscat at 9 p.m. and reach Banaglore at 1:50 a.m. the next day. The return flights will leave Bangalore at 2:50 a.m. and reach Muscat at 4:40 a.m local time.

As of now the airline flies to New Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Kozhikode in India.
