He said the fund will be channeled to education, health and housing programs for Iraqi refugees in Jordan, adding that it was part of 25 million dollars donation his government committed for assisting refugees in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon at an international meeting in Geneva last year.

The Iraqi minister handed over the money to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) during a brief ceremony at the Iraqi Embassy in Amman.

According to the UNHCR, some 2.2 million Iraqis have fled abroad since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, and most of them spilled to neighboring Syria and Jordan.
