Eye surgery behind Jaques’ improved performance

By IANS,

Sydney : Australian opener Phil Jaques has attributed his recent finesse in batting and fielding to a laser eye surgery he underwent before the start of Caribbean tour.

Jaques hit his second century and the first outside Australia in the second innings of the third Test against West Indies at Kensington Oval.

The 29-year old earlier used to wear contacts at the crease to rectify long-sightedness and astigmatism.

But since undergoing the surgery, the left-hander has dispensed with the lenses and believes he is seeing the ball with clarity he had not previously known.

“I decided to bite the bullet and go for the laser eye,” Jaques was quoted as saying in the Sydney Morning Herald following his innings of 108.

“It was really good. I could see the high balls heaps better, and while batting I got a lot more time. I don’t have to worry about the contacts any longer. It’s a big relief. It’s pretty much changed my life, I think, ” he said.
