Dubai : The Haj quota for India this year has been fixed at 160,491, the Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia said Tuesday.
The embassy statement issued from Riyadh came following reports appearing in a section of the media, which quoted India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia M.O.H. Farook as saying that the Haj quota for India had been increased.
“The official request from the Indian side to increase the quota further is under consideration by the Saudi side,” the statement said.
Every year, the Indian government receives more than 200,000 applications for the Haj pilgrimage. Last year, 110,000 Indian pilgrims went through the Haj Committee and another 47,000 made private travel arrangements through licenced Haj tour operators.
