Syrian-Iranian relations ‘very good’: diplomat

By DPA,

Damascus : The Iranian Ambassador to Syria, Sayyed Ahmed Moussavi, said Tuesday that Iranian-Syrian relations are good and he stressed that the Iranian revolution is called the “Islamic revolution, not the Shia or the Sunni revolution”.

Moussavi told DPA that the revolution “was not spread by the use of guns, but through ideas that entered people’s hearts directly”.

Moussavi, who is also an advisor to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, stated that he “believes that (US Secretary of State) Condoleezza Rice’s visit to Lebanon yesterday (Monday) aimed at ruining some parts of the Doha agreement”.

The deal brokered in Doha, Qatar resolved a long-running political standoff in Lebanon over the election of a president.

“The Lebanese should put the people’s interest before their eyes,” he stressed.

The ambassador described Iranian-Syrian relations as “very good”, noting they have developed and became more positive during the past four months.

As part of boosting bilateral relations, Moussavi said that Iran can pass on its experiences with nuclear power to Syria.

“Islam taught us to pass on our knowledge and we can pass our experience to Syria if it wants it,” he told DPA.

Moussavi said Iranian and Syrian officials will meet July 7, while Syrian businessmen will visit Iran in the coming few days.

The ambassador denied any tensions between the two countries, pointing out that around 500,000 Iranian tourists visit Syria every year.
