Congress, BJP bag two Rajya Sabha seats each from Karnataka

Bangalore : Karnataka’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress Thursday bagged two Rajya Sabha seats each from the state without a contest.

Former Maharashtra governor S.M. Krishna and mining baron Anil Lad were the winning Congress candidates. The BJP winners are former Bihar governor Rama Jois and leading educationist from north Karnataka Prabhakar Kore.

Their election without contest was officially announced Thursday, the last day for withdrawal of nominations.

All seven candidates, four of BJP, two of Janata Dal-Secular and one from the Congress, were also elected unopposed to the state legislative council. They include BJP leader and state Home Minister V.S. Acharya and former union minister M.V. Rajashekharan of the Congress.
