UAE, Syria sign air services agreement

Damascus : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Syria have initialled an air services agreement here, WAM news agency reported Friday.

The agreement was signed Thursday by Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, director general of UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, and Hazem Al Khadraa, director general of Syrian Civil Aviation Authority.

The two sides agreed to designate all UAE national airlines for unrestricted passenger flights to Syrian cities, with the exception of Damascus and meet again in 2009 to discuss potentials for an ‘open sky’ agreement between the two countries.

Both parties also signed a Memorandum of Understanding for scheduling 14 flights a week between Abu Dhabi and Damascus, 14 flights a week between Dubai and Damascus and seven flights a week between Sharjah and Damascus.
