Yadav was earlier transferred to Bijnaur jail. But sensing growing pressure, Chief Minister Mayawati ordered stern action against the guilty and subsequently Yadav was suspended. TCN was among the few media organizations to highlight the issue.

Mayawati said her government was committed to protect the honour and the interests of people belonging to all sections, religions and communities.. She further pointed out that the state government would protect the interests of minorities and honour their sentiments.

Yadav was accused of beating and humiliating some Muslim prisoners detained at the jail in connection of the serial bombings at some district court premises in the state last year. He was also reported to have disrespected the holy Quran during search at the jail on 13th June.

He was transferred to Bijnaur on 19th June and a magisterial inquiry into the incident was ordered by the District Magistrate of Lucknow. The preliminary enquiry found that nine jail inmates were injured in the incident.
