FARC delivers video of surviving hostage

By IANS,

Bogota : Leftist insurgent group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) has delivered a video as a proof of life of the only surviving member of a group they kidnapped in 2002, EFE reported Sunday.

Legislator Sigifredo Lopez was kidnapped, along with 11 other politicians, by the guerrilla group in the south Colombian city of Cali.

The video was handed over by the FARC to a commission comprising Catholic Church representatives and the ex-ombudsman of Cali, Hernan Sandoval.

Lopez’s wife Patricia Nieto said that a prelate of the Catholic Church told her that they had a video of her husband.

The 11 legislators were slain June 18, 2007 in the course of a raid by security forces on the camp they were housed in.

Lopez, at the time of the attack, was not present in the camp.
