Spain send world champions Italy out in penalty shoot-out

Vienna : Spain defeated world champions Italy in a penalty shoot-out in Vienna Sunday night to advance to the semi-finals of Euro 2008.

After a goalless extra-time and 90 minutes, Spain won the shoot-out 4-2.

Cesc Fabregas scored the decisive penalty for Spain after Iker Casillas had saved from Simone Perrotta and Antonio Di Natale.

David Villa, Santi Cazorla and Marcos Senna also converted for Spain while Dani Guiza saw his shot saved by Gianluigi Buffon.

Spain will play Russia in Vienna Thursday for a place in the final against either Germany or Turkey, who meet in the first semi-final in Basle on Wednesday.
