Guatemala City : At least seven people, including five members of a family, have been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Guatemala’s southern province of Escuintla, Spain’s EFE news agency reported.
The shootout took place Monday night in El Llanito village, near the port of San Jose. The victims were travelling in a truck at the time of the incident, the police said Tuesday.
The family was fleeing the village after receiving death threats. The gunmen intercepted the truck and asked the family members to step out of the vehicle before spraying bullets on them, the police said.
Seven other people who were on the truck escaped unhurt after they hid themselves behind luggage.
Currently, the case is being investigated.
