EU-Russia Summit to discuss Palestine, Iran

Brussels : This years EU-Russia Summit, the first with President Dmitri Medvedev, will take place in Khanty-Mansiisk, Siberia, on Thursday and Friday. Foreign policy issues on the agenda of the summit include the Palestine question, Afghanistan, Iran, Ukraine and Georgia.

The summit will also launch negotiations on a new partnership and cooperation agreement between the EU and Russia. As an important global player, Russia is a vital partner for the EU in addressing global challenges such as food and energy security, climate change, as well as the development of the world economy, noted a statement by the European Commission here Wednesday.

“I look forward to this Summit with President Medvedev, as it comes at a crucial moment for both Russia and the EU. Our economies are increasingly interdependent. The negotiation of a new agreement provides a good opportunity to develop the potential of our strategic partnership,” said the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, in press statements.
