Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Gulab Singh Thakur told IANS Wednesday that delegations from both governments and representatives of those displaced from their lands due to the dam construction would discuss their rehabilitation and otrher issues.

Over 30,000 families of 339 villages were evicted in 1973 during the construction of Pong Dam in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, a representative of the oustees said.

As per the agreement between the Himachal Pradesh and the central governments, nearly 16,000 families were found eligible for the allotment of land in Rajasthan, he said.

However, only 9,896 displaced people were allotted land in Rajasthan and the remaining oustees are struggling for justice from the Rajasthan government, he claimed.
