The radio said in a broadcast early on Thursday that the Israeli-manned checkpoints around the strip would remain closed today, in line with a decision taken by senior Israeli security officials at a meeting held late on Wednesday.

Tel Aviv re-imposed the siege on the region early on Wednesday in retaliation for a missile attack that targeted the southern town of Sderot. The attack, claimed by Islamic Jihad, left two Israelis wounded.

The radio indicated that the Israeli leaders would hold further consultations later today to take a decision, whether to keep the tight siege on Gaza effective on Friday.

Israel has recently slackened the blockade around Gaza in line with an understanding with Hamas to halt missile attacks.
