Barak said in a statement late Tuesday that this decision was in response to “the Palestinian missile attacks into southern Israel, injuring four people.”

The Israeli radio reported Wednesday morning, “Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert held last (Tuesday) night urgent talks with Barak to agree on response to this attack that was claimed by the Islamic Jihad movement.”

Israel reopened on Sunday the Sufa and Nahal Oz crossings, allowing food and fuel into the Palestinian areas.

The Al-Quds Brigades of the Islamic Jihad in Palestine claimed Tuesday responsibility for launching three rockets towards southern Israel.

“The attack comes in response to the killing of one of its leaders, north of the West Bank in his home yesterday (Monday),” an Islamic Jihad statement said.
