NATO soldier, 22 militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul : The US-led coalition troops in Afghanistan announced Wednesday the killing of 22 Taliban militants in two separate air strikes in eastern and southeastern Afghanistan.

A statement from the coalition forces Bagram air base said the air strikes were carried out in Sarobi district of Kabul and Gomal district of Paktika province.

It added that the operation was conducted following a request for help against Taliban by Afghan police Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, a NATO soldier was killed in a roadside bomb blast in southern Afghanistan.

Without revealing the exact location of the explosion, a NATO statement said one of its soldiers was killed when a bomb hit their patrol in southern Afghanistan.

The name and nationality of the soldier killed in the blast was not released.
