Policeman dies, 2 wounded in attack in Pakistan’s NW

By IRNA,

Islamabad : A policeman was killed and two others were injured in an overnight attack on a security check post in Pakistan’s restive northwest, police said Wednesday.

In another development, suspected militants burnt six girl schools in Swat Valley, according to a police report.

Three school buildings, too, were completely burnt, police said.

Taliban had claimed responsibility for burning of the schools, although the action is contrary to their agreement in a peace deal signed with the government last month.

Police said that unidentified gunmen attacked check post at Shah Dheri village, which prompted clash between the forces and the attackers.

In another incident, an empty police station building was blown at Grama area of Swat Valley.

Attacks on security forces and girl schools have increased after peace talks between Taliban and the government in North West Frontier Province (NWFP).

Their peace deal is still intact but resumption of hostilities has put the deal at stake.
