Lucknow : A politician, who has been jailed for the last 19 years, pleaded for mercy killing on Wednesday after losing hope of getting justice, his lawyer said.
Sher Bahadur Singh @ Shera, 47, made the plea by writing to the President, Prime Minister and Chief Minister, advocate Jai Kishan Arora told PTI.
“I have spent 19 years of my life in the jail. Now, I don’t want to live any more…”, Shera was quoted by his lawyer as saying.
Sher Bahadur contested twice as independent candidate from Sarojini Nagar seat in assembly elections 1989.
Initially, Sher Bahadur from Gadhi Chunati village in Banthara, charged with 67 cases including attempt to murder (firing over a police party), assault, threat and abuse.
However, Jai claimed that there was no murder charge against his client, and Sher Bahadur had been exonerated in 64 cases.
On behalf of Shera, his brother Rakesh Singh has filed a writ petition in Lucknow bench of Allahabad High court stating that the cases were lodged against him due to “political vendetta”.
“His increasing popularity created fear among his political rivals, who hatched a conspiracy and got him booked in a number of cases, Arora said.
Shera’s mother has already died and his father Pratap Singh (68) still hopes that his son will be freed “one day”.
