Sania advances in Wimbledon doubles.

London : It might be the end of the road for Sania Mirza in the singles, but the Indian, along with her American partner Bethanie Mattek, made an impressive start to theír doubles campaign routing English duo of Elena Baltacha and Naomi Cavady 6-4, 6-2, at the Wimbledon tennis Championships here at the All England Club.

NAnother Indian Leander Paes and Czech Lukas Dlouhy have entered the third round of the men’s doubles, the ninth-seeded pair beating American-Australian combine of Eric Butorac and Ashley Fisher 6-3 7-6 (3) Thursday.

However, Paes’ compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi and his Bahamas partner Mark Knowles’s recent poor form continued as the fourth seeded duo crashed out in the first round.

The India-Bahamas duo lost to German Philipp Petzschner and Alexander Peya of Austria in a tightly fought match 5-7, 2-6, 6-7(4).

Indian Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna is also out as he and his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-haq Qureshi, failed to get past the second round , losing to Spanish combine of Marcel Granollers-Pujol and Santiago Ventura 2-6, 4-6, 2-6.

It will be a fresh start for the Indians in the mixed doubles and all of them have moved into the second round after receiving a bye in the first round.

While Paes along with Australian Rennae Stubbs have been seeded tenth, Sania and Bhupathi, teaming for the second time after Australian Open have been seeded eleventh.

Bopanna partnering Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus have also been given a first round bye.
