Arjun finishes 15th in Thai PGA golf

Chiang Rai (Thailand) : Arjun Singh managed an even par 72 on the final day to finish tied 15th and cap a modest week for the Indian golfers at the Singha Thai PGA Championships here Sunday.

Arjun ended the week at six-under 282, best score among the Indians, while youngster Gaganjeet Bhullar turned in a card of two-under 70 to finish 20th. Arjun took a cheque of $3,966 while Bhullar earned $3,285.

Of the other Indians, Gaurav Ghei had his worst day of the week with a 75 that saw him finish at even par 288 and in tied 44th place while Harmeet Kahlon (71), who was one-over 289 and tied 49. Amandeep Johl (77) was tied 56th at five-over 293.

Korea’s Mo Joong-kyung claimed a three-shot victory to end a long 12-year title drought on the Asian Tour. The 36-year-old Korean held off the combined challenges of Filipino Juvic Pagunsan and local hero Prayad Marksaeng with a superb final round of seven-under-par 65 to claim the first prize of $47,550. Mo totalled 21-under-par 267.

It wasn’t quite a stroll for overnight leader Mo as Pagusan battled brilliantly on the back nine to stay hot on the Korean’s heels before settling for the runner-up place following a four-under-par 68.

In-form Prayad, chasing a third victory this month, got to within two shots of the lead but ran out of holes for a 66 to share third place with Australian David Gleeson, who charged up the leaderboard with a blistering 64.

The first time Mo won a title on Asian Tour was in 1996 when he won in Guam in 1996.
