Abbas Kicks Off Tour

Ramallah : The president of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Mahmud Abbas, will kick off a tour of several countries of the region and Europe on Sunday, according to his spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeina.

Abbas will depart from Amman for the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh, where he will attend the 11th Summit of Heads of State of the African Union, to be held on Monday and Tuesday.

Rudeina pointed out that the PNA leader will travel to Athens later to attend a meeting of the Socialist International.

He will return to Jordan and will leave for Syria on July 6 for a two-day visit that will include a meeting with President Bashar al-Assad.

Abbas will arrive in Rome on July 10 for an official visit, and will end his tour in Paris, where he will attend the opening session of a summit of the Union for the Mediterranean on July 13.

At the request of France and Germany, the meeting will aimed at reinforcing cooperation among European coastal countries, Northern Africa and some Middle East nations.
