Cairo : Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has called for a united African stand towards international issues and crises.
Addressing the 11th African Union (AU) summit that kicked off in the Egyptian Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday, which was broadcast by the Egyptian television, Mubarak stressed on the importance of regional integration and unity.
He warned that disputes are the “biggest challenge” facing the African continent.
The Egyptian president hoped that efforts would increase for activating the principles of the United Nations document and the AU establishing document.
He urged the African leaders to combat human trafficking, saying Egypt would present to the summit a draft resolution on the problem.
The two-day AU summit, which is the first to be hosted by Egypt since the union was established in March 2001, will discuss issues related to development, food crisis, water, energy, and poverty.
