AUDF President applauses Maharashtra Jamiat

M. Burhanuddin Qasmi

Mumbai : ‘India– our country is a democratic nation, governed by the rule of law and justice will prevail after all; citizens especially those from minority communities should remain optimistic about the course of justice’, were some of the expressions by Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) president in a press statement today from his Mumbai residence.

Maulana Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi, president AUDF and Assam State Jami’at Ulama-e Hind congratulated Maharashtra State Jamait for putting up a successful challenge in the Apex Court against the infamous MCOCA law of Maharashtra. In his statement Maulana Ajmal applauses the Apex Court stay order on some of the on going cases in the present MCOCA court and praised Gulzar Ahmad Azmi, General Secretary Jamiat sponsored ‘Riqab Relief Committee’ and lawyer Shahid Azmi for their endeavour while availing the ‘stay verdict’ in favour of the applicants.

Maulana Badruddin Ajmal said the court verdict is ‘very positive’ and will boost confidence of minority communities specially Muslims on the constitution of India and our justice system. He appreciated the verdict issued by the Supreme Court of India on 11, July 2006 Mumbai suburban train blasts, Aurangabad arms seizing case and serial blasts of Malegaon, saying every accused should get a fair chance to put his side of the story and to ascertain that he or she is being punished only because of his or her crime and nothing else.

A court bench comprising justices B N Agrawal and G S Singhvi has admitted the appeal filed by accused – Zameer Ahmad Lutfur Rahman, Shabbir Ahmad Masihullah and Muzaffar Tanvir – and directed interim stay on the proceedings on Friday 29 February 2008. The accused challenged the proceedings on the ground that there were insurgency charges against them under MCOCA. They appealed before the honourable court saying that the MCOCA provision was in conflict with a similar provision of UAPA and argued that the state could not have enacted a law that was contrary to the central law.

Maulana Ajmal added that while making a trustworthy peaceful society police has a vital role to play but unfortunately it is here we Indian are in making gulf between communities. “We all must abide by the law and make our policing physically transparent to punish all the criminals whosoever he may be and protect all innocents from the least humiliation”, said the AUDF president. It is the execution of justice which ensures trust on the constitution and the trust leads to love and longing with the nation, he said, ‘you cannot create patriot, they are born’ Maulana Badurddin Ajmal observed.
