Moscow : The battles against the US blockade and for the liberation of the five Cuban anti-terrorists jailed in the United States gathered more than 200 Russian activists in a Cuba solidarity festival held here.
Called Cuba Fiesta, the gathering was held in the Budu Lunch club and was opened by the political advisor of the embassy, Carlos Valdes who thanked the efforts made by the solidarity movement in 2007.
“The initiatives you have made in Russia gave quality to the efforts to halt the blockade and achieve an opening to the truth about the arbitrary jailing of Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez,” Valdes said.
“We know that you are preparing actions to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution on the first of January 1959 and are confident that program will have the same success,” the diplomat concluded.
Lena Loshkina, coordinator of the Committee for the Liberation of the Cuban Five, explained that they were jailed because “they were trying to prevent acts of terrorists based in the United States.”
We should increase our efforts in favor of the Five during the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution during which we will also commemorate the 80th birthday of Che Guevara on June 14, she added.
The festivities included demonstrations in schools in which Russian groups learned to do traditional Cuban dances.
Marking the ceremony, dozens of Muscovites, Hispanics and Africans joined with families here in the dance known as casino and concluded in a conga line of solidarity.
